  • My first hot tent trip to the BWCAW in 2018-

I wrote this up after the first WCS, was my first hot tent trip to the BWCAW (have cold tented there but was excited to have luxury accommodations)

Since then, I've sold that canvas tent, and bought an Arctic Oven Igloo (was on the tent tour at WCS in 2019) and built a 9' SnowWalker toboggan with Chris Evavold at the WCS: http://www.blackriversleds.com/snowwalker-toboggans/

Nice! Its wonderful up there in the winter time. I'll be headed there real soon. Those Arctic Ovens look well built and very warm with little fuel burned.

Great report! I loved the Grinch analogy. Maybe I could tie my Mini Doxie to the front of my sled. He would be as helpful as the Grinch dog. LOL I appreciated the info on the equipment. Not sure if you remember, but what was the temp range when you were there?

If I recall correctly, we had relatively warm weather, but not so warm that the snow was mush- High 20's during the day, in the teens at night- but we left as a cold front was coming in, and it dropped to single digits the day after we left. We got lucky/hit the weather jackpot.

Great report Jason! Thanks for the WCS plug. So glad you were able to make a BRS toboggan at the Symposium, it will give you years' of enjoyment!

Nice report! Did you catch enough fish to eat? Thanks for sharing.

        Merry Christmas,

Thanks, yes, we had a couple for a nice dinner- fishing was definitely slower than we'd hoped for, but that just means we have to keep trying.

Hello Southcove: Thanks for your greeting! Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones as well. I couldn't find WT so I asked around at myccr about what happened . They directed me here. I'm very thankful that there is a dedicated site to winter camping. I've noticed some familiar people. As soon, as I saw "Southcove", I remembered you. Any trips planned for this winter?

          Take care,
          Cousin Pete

I shouldn't speak for Southcove but he's got a winter trip if he wants one as I'm bugging him to get out 😁! Hopefully his work schedule will allow a trip sometime this winter.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.

Hey... good to hear from you! I mentioned you about an hour ago to a friend of my son who did his first 5 night fall hot tent trip this year with us. He's eager for a bigger challenge, but so far the weather and 3 differing work schedules (and others....!) have not jelled but I hope they do. The reference was to one of your longer posted to share WT trips where you said your nightly devotions and ended the night with some adult beverage. It intrigued that 24 year old to no end. Happy New Years to you.

Hello Southcove: Man you got a good memory! It's great to hear about other people getting into hot tenting. Thanks for your kind words. If you do trip, I'll be looking forward to reading the report.
