  • FORUM Active?

Sorry, did not know where to post this, but is this FORUM active, or did the members just drop out of winter trekking/camping ? I rarely see members on here, or posts.

It’s active, but not a ton of posts each day right now. It’ll pick up as the weather cools down and camping season gets into full swing. Plus, it’s a relatively new forum, so it’ll gain traction.

Sad to say, but I think this type of forum has largely been replaced by FaceBook groups.

Having just attended the annual Winter Camping Symposium last weekend, I can say that the WCS leadership team made it clear that, although this forum is new and just gaining traction, their goal is to make it a viable replacement for the now-gone winter trekking.com, especially because FB groups aren’t particularly great at what the goal of this forum is: the long term cataloging of information for easy search/recall. They made a concerted effort at our group gatherings to push the site and encourage engagement. I say we keep posting and join the effort in getting it rolling. 😎

I noticed every time I visit the site, I would see 0 members online. Even I wasn't counted. Then I realized that I wasn't logged in. Lol

Great comments guys- thank you. I recommended it (this forum) to two friends and one joined up. As to FascistBook, I dropped that looong ago. Done with that nonsense.
I am currently doing some minor modifications to some new bibs (wind layer).

I check in every evening as part of my relaxation before bedtime. To get the site counter to recognize you, you have to click on a link (any link). I enjoy the content of this site and will post my own if/when I have something relevant to add.

As a senior citizen, it's refreshing to be referred to as a "Junior Member."

I check out the site about twice a week and browse around. Cold weather coming and I like to read the northern folks trips.
down here in NY we are planning our December trips.

Hey your area still gets cold, and you have the Adirondacks to muk around in too 😬

Yes we're active and we're actively running the site. We're small at the moment with a bit over 300 members. This site may grow slower than some because we do not push content for advertisers and we (admins) are not full time web developers.

So, please be patient and bear with us as this site grows. You're always welcome to start conversations that pertain to winter camping here as a member.

I check in here fairly regularly, even in the summer.
I'm just not particularly useful, I don't have much to say or contribute, but I'm still around. I assume others are the same.
It is a pretty tiny little segment of the outdoors world too, not that many people are all that interested in sleeping outside in the winter, at least not compared to summer campers.

I think the site has grown nicely in the short time it's been alive now.
There is some great info and a good crew here, it'll keep building, but I suppose it would help if I made myself useful and worked on contributing more..........................

I like the site and appreciate the moderators help. I don’t recall donating any $ to help but if a fund raiser is necessary to keep it going please keep us informed. I like the outdoor site like this and don’t go on Facebook to read things.
I too have very little to offer other than going on some fun winter trips, BUT today I receive a small 10” GSI Dutch oven that will go on a winter trip!

I've been "here" since last year but rarely check the site during the warmer months. Now that the weather is cooling down, I'll begin to check the topics more regularly. I suspect there are many others that do the same.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.
