Really depends. Some trips, I just want to "run and gun" and see all the things! Other times though, I like to take it a bit slower and stay awhile - get to know the locals. 😀

I voted for all 3 since I do about equal amounts of each. 1 and 3 I will take the hot tent. 1 was the reason I bought the snowtrekker. My other tents were too heavy to take on the dog sled. For 2 I usually use the bivy sack and sleep with the dogs or on top of the sled.

I could bring what I need to demonstrate it at Winter Camping Rendezvous. Can't go to Winter Camping Symposium. We have a large War of 1812 reenactment that weekend. Will be doing blacksmith demonstrations on my Lewis and Clark Expedition replica forge and my wife and granddaughters will be carding, spinning and dying wool. Will be selling hand made wool items and forged products. Items we sell are things that would be used in a primitive camp or settlement.

Hats off to you Keith. That would be awesome to see at the rendezvous.

I'm all for just a couple miles in via pulk then basecamping for 2-6 days or so. Seems like it takes me the first day to get all set up, then I can get into a routine of processing wood, then just enjoy the rest of my time out there with friends, drinking bourbon, coffee, awesome meals, and rotating between hanging out in everyone's hot tents. And yes, my hot tent has a name.

At this point in my life (67) with a total knee replacement, bad shoulder, etc., I find it more fun to go somewhere and set up a base camp for future explorations from there. I find it a better use of my time; and energy 😉

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.

After some medical issues, I bought a skidoo. Don't know why I didn't do it before, fun, fun, fun! I can continue winter camping, and I can haul a lot of comfort items now that weight isn't an issue.

I prefer to move everyday, even if it is only a few KM. I find that if i stay where I am I dont bother to explore around me and I just end up wasting the day relaxing.

I know right! its weird, I enjoy the work of moving daily. Its nice to wake up every day and see some new sights. I also like the feeling of walking in new snow.
