  • Modern snow shoes over 36"?

Does anyone make modern snow shoes over 36" length? I'm looking for a bit more float.

Adding the tail extensions to MSRs gives 30 inches but puts most of the flotation way back there and causes the toe to dive in powder in my experience. I haven't seen anything in the 36 inch range.

I have a tripping partner that wears this set. he gets good float, and they are perfect for wood gathering. He is a bigger guy.

This won't help you. However flotation is all about surface area. So you can have long and narrow (think skis) or you can have shorter and wide (snow shoes). So depending on your application, your choices are many. If you're out on flat open lakes and fields, it hard to beat a set of Alaskan style snowshoes (long and narrow) or perhaps a set of Huron Pattern 16x48. Shorter and wide. If you're more bush whacking, a set of bear paw style snow shoes are best. Less likely to get hung up.

If money was not object get a pair good for flat open conditions and a second pair for around camp and in the bush.

          Cheers
